- Snowflake announced Snowflake Decision on 8 October 2026: a decision model you call from SQL through AI_COMPLETE, with the same three kinds of question as Jev and typed answers with probabilities.
- It is in private preview, so there is no public price, context size or region list yet.
- Snowflake says it scored highest of 72 models on a subset of the Jev Decision Index.
- A faster variant followed on 19 October.
Side by side
| Feature | Jev (TypeSafe AI) | Snowflake Decision |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A decision model: it answers typed questions about an input and returns probabilities. It cannot write text. | A decision model in Snowflake Cortex AI Functions, for classification, scoring, filtering and routing; it returns typed answers, not text (Snowflake's announcement) |
| Question types | Choice (up to 255 options), Score (2 to 10 levels), Noul (yes/no) | Choice, Score and "Yes or no (noul)", each answered with probabilities and a confidence value |
| How you call it | TypeSafe's API, with the Python SDK, Vercel AI Gateway, OpenRouter and LiteLLM | SQL: the AI_COMPLETE function with the model name snowflake-decision. The faster variant also has a REST endpoint through Cortex AI Gateway |
| Input | Text by default; images are an experimental option (since 14 October) | Text in every example; Snowflake's post does not list other input types |
| Price | $0.042 per million input tokens, output free (checked 14 October 2026) | Not stated |
| Availability | Open: create an account and add credit | Private preview: request access through your Snowflake account team |
| Context size, limits, regions | 64k tokens per request by default, 262k with the long-context header (TypeSafe's documentation) | Not stated |
| Where your data goes | Sent to TypeSafe's API | Stays in Snowflake: Snowflake says your existing governance, access controls and audit policies apply to every decision |
| Vendor benchmark claim | TypeSafe's own workflow evals | 57.63 on the Jev Decision Index 0.2.1, the highest of 72 models on 29 of its benchmarks (Snowflake's own run, 88,837 test requests) |
The Snowflake column uses Snowflake's blog posts of 8 and 19 October 2026. The Jev column uses TypeSafe's documentation. Snowflake Decision is in private preview, so prices and limits may change when it opens.
The short answer
Snowflake Decision is the first decision model that lives inside a data platform. If your data is already in Snowflake and you want to label, score or route rows with one SQL call, it is built for that. It answers the same three kinds of question as Jev: pick one option, score on a scale, or yes/no.
What you cannot do yet is compare it with Jev on price, speed or limits, because Snowflake has not published them and the model is in private preview.
What does Snowflake say?
Snowflake's announcement of 8 October 2026 says Snowflake Decision had the highest quality score among 72 models on 29 benchmarks from the Jev Decision Index 0.2.1, with a score of 57.63, across 88,837 test requests. Snowflake ran it itself, and used 29 of the index's benchmarks because its interface allows at most 32 options per question.
The index is hosted on a Hugging Face space, and Snowflake's post does not say who runs it. It is a different index from the Artificial Analysis Decision Index that we cover on the benchmarks page, so the scores cannot be compared with those, and a vendor's own run is not an independent test.
What about Snowflake Decision Fast?
On 19 October 2026 Snowflake described a lower-latency variant, snowflake-decision-fast, also in private preview. It can be called through SQL or through a REST endpoint on Cortex AI Gateway. Snowflake says round trips in its live demo, which classifies a support ticket while the user types, consistently finished in under 300 ms. That figure is for the demo, not a guarantee, and the post gives no price.
The example code in Snowflake's post uses TypeSafe's Python SDK (typesafe_sdk) and its system_one call, which is the same request shape as Jev's.
Is there another way to run decision models on Snowflake?
Yes, but it is a different thing. A Snowflake developer blog post by Josh Reini (updated 5 October 2026) shows how to run decider-2b, a 1.9B-parameter open-weight fine-tune published by a third party, on your own Snowflake compute. In that post's test, on 231 public decisions, it got 75.8% right at about $0.025 per 1,000 decisions in batch. The post says its material is not maintained and not a guarantee of results, and it is not Snowflake Decision.
What is not known yet?
Before you rely on any of this:
- Price. Snowflake's posts do not state one.
- Limits. Context size, number of questions per request and regions are not given.
- Who built the model, and how. The announcement does not say.
- Other inputs. Only text is shown in the examples.
- An independent test. The only score so far is Snowflake's own run.
Which should you pick?
Based on what is documented today:
- Choose Jev if you want a service you can use today, with public pricing and limits, from any stack.
- Look at Snowflake Decision if your data already lives in Snowflake, you need it to stay there under your own governance, and you can join the private preview.
- Test both before you commit once Snowflake opens access. Run the same labelled sample of your own data through each, and compare accuracy, speed and total cost.

Common questions
A decision model in Snowflake Cortex AI Functions, announced on 8 October 2026 and in private preview. You call it from SQL with AI_COMPLETE and it returns typed answers with probabilities, not text.
Nobody can say yet. Snowflake reports 57.63 on 29 benchmarks of the Jev Decision Index, the highest of 72 models, but that is Snowflake's own run, and it has not published a price, speed or limits.
Snowflake has not said. Its posts of 8 and 19 October give no price.
Only through the private preview. Snowflake says to request access through your account team.
Snowflake says the call runs inside Cortex AI Functions, so your existing governance, access controls and audit policies apply to every decision. With Jev, your input goes to TypeSafe's API.
